Congratulations on being accepted to Utah’s flagship university! We are excited to welcome you to the University of Utah for what we know we will be a transformative and exceptional educational experience.
The U is a world-class research and teaching institution built on a legacy of innovation, collaboration, community engagement and service. At the U, you will find a diverse and multidisciplinary university with faculty, advisors and research opportunities focused on addressing society’s greatest problems and needs. It is our goal to provide you with an academic experience — whatever your career path — that empowers you to master your passions and unique talents to create a meaningful life and serve the community, the state and the world.
There is much to discover here, including more than 100 undergraduate and 90 graduate degree programs designed to inspire, transform and launch you into a successful future. These range from art history to computer engineering, entrepreneurship, health communication, leadership studies, sociology and urban ecology.
You might also consider joining a learning community, designed to connect you with a small group of students to ensure you navigate the university successfully during your first year. The MUSE Project, which helps students create a personalized educational experience, is an option to connect with inspiring people and opportunities. We also offer internships, study abroad programs in more than 50 countries, and research opportunities designed to take your college experience beyond the classroom.
But I know a full college experience is more than studying 24 hours a day, seven days a week! I hope you will take advantage of the many extracurricular activities that create a rich, vibrant culture on our campus.
There are more than 600 academic, social and athletic groups on campus, from the Lowell Bennion Community Service Center to the Mighty Utah Student Section (MUSS) that cheers on our Pac-12 athletic teams. Each week, our colleges, departments, clubs and organizations host dozens of weekly activities and events. Reach out and connect with your fellow students. Join Crimson Quidditch. Attend a lecture or dance performance at Kingsbury Hall. Check out the 3-D printers and Make Space at Lassonde Studios. Explore and have fun!

Get the most out of your college experience!
To get the most out of your University of Utah education, you must get involved both within the classroom and beyond. With over 600 student clubs and organizations, an array of recreational activities, intramural sports clubs and teams, and countless lectures, concerts and speakers, there truly is something for everyone. We hope each student becomes involved with the MUSE Project (My U Signature Experience) to create your own transformative learning experience while at the U, whether it be participating in Learning Abroad, engaging in research, working in an internship, or all of these activities and more. The Division of Student Affairs is here to help you navigate your new University of Utah home with caring professionals who can guide you every step of the way!

What options do I have to fulfill my requirements?
The possibilities are endless. The University offers you a wide range of General Education courses that are taught through the academic colleges, through the LEAP Program or Honors College. We hope these courses will encourage you to explore and discover, and to engage you at the University. The choices you make as you navigate through General Education and Bachelor degree requirements should match your career objectives, the central questions that inspire or motivate you, and the big ideas that compel you. Be sure and meet with an advisor. They will help you make good choices and to develop a plan that will help you succeed, help you choose a major or point you toward special programs that will enhance your education as an undergraduate.
